Andre Stewart’s Recovery Journey – A Father’s Perspective
In July 2024, our family faced a moment every athlete and parent dreads: Andre Stewart, my son and a defensive back for the University of Tennessee, suffered a torn Achilles tendon during practice. As his father, I’ve had a front-row seat to his healing process—a path filled with challenges, courage, and a relentless drive to return stronger.
The Initial Shock and the Road Ahead

The news hit hard. For a player whose position depends on explosiveness, agility, and speed, an Achilles injury is no
small setback. We quickly realized that recovery would be a demanding process, one requiring both physical endurance and mental grit. The early days were focused on rest, reducing inflammation, and adhering strictly to medical protocols to ensure proper healing.
Commitment to Recovery
Andre’s focus and determination in his rehabilitation have been nothing short of inspiring. Each day became a new opportunity—starting from limited mobility, progressing to range-of-motion therapy, and now, gradually regaining strength and confidence. Physical therapy became his training ground, and every small victory—from walking unaided to light agility drills—was a big win.
The Mental Battle
Beyond the physical pain, recovery tested Andre mentally. The frustration of being sidelined was real, but he leaned into setting achievable goals and visualizing his return. With the support of family, coaches, and teammates, he remained grounded in the belief that he’s more than the game—and that this chapter will be part of a greater comeback.
Discovering New Strengths
Through this process, Andre has discovered personal growth—developing patience, perseverance, and a deeper appreciation for the sport he loves. He’s also become a source of encouragement to others recovering from injury, proving that setbacks can lead to even stronger comebacks.

Looking Forward
As of today, Andre’s rehabilitation is on track. His movement is fluid, his strength is returning, and his confidence is growing. While we’re not rushing the process, the outlook is optimistic. He’s getting closer every day to wearing the orange jersey once again, this time with an even greater sense of purpose.
A Word to Other Families and Athletes
To those navigating recovery: you are not alone. Trust the journey, lean on your support system, and celebrate the small victories. Healing takes time, but with determination and care, returning stronger is not just possible—it’s likely.
To all who’ve supported Andre—thank you. Your encouragement fuels his drive. We look forward to seeing him back on the field, proudly representing the University of Tennessee
